IBC Innovation Award for Content Management: 2016 Winner and Finalists
Winner - Endemol Shine Germany
Project Title: Wild Island
- MoovIT Production Services
For the 2015 production of reality TV show Wild Island, Germany-based MoovIT production services needed to determine how to manage a remote workflow over 6,000+ miles, with filming and production taking place on two secluded islands off the coast of Central America, and post taking place in Cologne, Germany.
With six cameras covering the action, the production team, who were located on a neighboring island one hour away by boat, needed to wrangle 20 to 30 hours of footage they received per day, with zero downtime and a 24-hour turn on dailies. Further, they needed to corral the large amounts of data they received on a daily basis, and make that content available to the Cologne production staff in a timely, safe and organized manner.
To manage this mission critical operation, MoovIT implemented an EditShare workflow solution based on the latest EditShare XStream EFS high availability storage platform to securely handle the large amounts of footage, with integrated Flow media asset management and the web-based AirFlow remote collaborative toolset to unify operations across oceans.
This ability to securely store and then remotely share media created efficiencies across the complete production, ultimately saving 50% on standard post production time and resources.
Highly Commended - Tencent Video
Project Title: The 15 of Us
- Grass Valley
Tencent Video, headquartered in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, needed to meet the ever-increasing demand for online video content in China. Tencent partnered with Netherlands-based Talpa to produce the reality show The 15 of Us. Producing an online reality TV show is markedly different from a traditional broadcast program—the production uses 120 remote HD cameras and two sets of 360-degree full-view cameras generating almost 3,000m hours of content each day. In a project of this magnitude, metadata is of prime importance and operators enter metadata in real time, 24/7 to prepare the production workflow for rough editing, craft editing, audio dubbing, packaging and approval. Tencent selected GV STRATUS from Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, to help manage the content with its many features geared towards live programming, with relatively simple operation. Tencent found GV STRATUS easy and quick to learn, even for their new and junior staff. Tencent also found GV STRATUS very reliable in their 24/7 operation providing a very smooth production workflow.

Project Title: Ketnet
Like most broadcasters, children’s TV network Ketnet is challenged with the impact of the digital revolution on it's viewers behavior. To accommodate these younger viewers Ketnet, together with their technology partner Small Town Heroes, transformed their linear TV channel to an interactive, curated experience on tablets, where children can alternate their binge watching behavior with educational games and creative challenges.
The end result competes with world-class apps by providing a richer, safer and more educational content and interaction platform for children.
