IBC Training Zones

Post Production Training Zone - Hall 7

At a time when both technology and operational practices are changing fast, it is all too easy to feel that you know about the products but not what to do with them. The Training Zone focused on post production issues, with a hands-on theatre looking at some of the most powerful and popular software tools. Visitors were working on new generation 34-inch iMacs which used the very latest software, including a brand-new version of Apple’s Final Cut Pro Suite, the Adobe Production Suite, and specialist tools like Maxon Cinema 4D. All sessions were free and gave visitors a chance to get real, hands-on experience with some of the latest tools under the watchful gaze of expert trainers.

"I was looking for a general overview of new technology and feel I have got lots of info. I attended the Adobe training sessions and was impressed with them." Johannes de Gruyter

Production Training Zone - Hall 9

The Production Village offered the opportunity to engage and network with potential buyers and users, aided by an on-site bar where visitors could meet and chat. The focal point of the village was a hands-on studio where visitors could touch, feel and experience the state-of-the-art technology from a comprehensive display of broadcast and digital cinema cameras. The site was also home to two training theatres: one that offered a series of craft presentations, on everything from lighting and workflow to effects make-up and getting the most out of an interviewee; another in which manufacturers offered in-depth, hands-on workshops on their products.

Juame Rey from Panasonic said of the Production Village:  "We are pleased that those who came to IBC2009 came for a very strong reason: business. In terms of efficiency, this has been our best-ever year. These exhibitions are important meeting points and the location in the Production Village means we can be of better service to our customers. The Production Village is a bright idea, and a unique one, too. I can't think of anything else like it at any other show."

Rod Gammons from Rotolight said: ''IBC is the most important broadcast technology show in the world, and the best market opportunity for our products. The new Production Village is particularly useful as the clientele is camera orientated, which allows us to target our market. Our product is the fastest deployable camcorder light on the market, and it's selling fast too - we've sold 50 units today already!''

Student enterprise

In an ever-evolving industry, we must ensure students and young engineers – our future industry leaders – are always excited and inspired by the activities at our event. That’s why IBC again employed college students to participate in the running of the IBC2009 conference. By immersing themselves in the exhibitions, getting hands-on experience at the new Production Village, and by gaining access to myriad conference sessions, they gained an invaluable insight into the inner workings of the industry.
