2008 IBC Innovation Award for Content Creation and the Judges' Award - Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds in Concert

This 3D concert movie was a real hit, and to keep up the excitement Los Angeles facility Fotokem completed the post production, using the Quantel Pablo system, in just 11 weeks.

Howard Lukk, vice president of production technology at The Walt Disney Studios said at the awards ceremony “Special thanks really does go to IBC because it was here last year that I actually met with all those people, and after looking Quantel in the eye and saying ‘will you support me in one month to do this project’, they stepped up to the plate and really supported us.

"So thank you IBC – thank you.”

NBC Universal

2008 IBC Innovation Award for Content Management – NBC Universal: Micah production workflow

Micah is a company-wide production workflow, developed with Digital Rapids and Signiant, which automatically transcodes and transports content between NBC Universal's many sites and operations.

Rab Mukhraj, director of media delivery at NBC Universal said “The Micah project is an outstanding example of how the close partnership between users and vendors can turn powerful technology into real-world benefits. We could not have accomplished this without the exceptional efforts of Digital Rapids and Signiant”.

Control Room

2008 IBC Innovation Award for content delivery - Control Room

Control Room was the production company behind the Live Earth concert to draw attention to climate change. To process more than 80 hours of content in the day their system was developed with technology partners MSN, Intelsat, Rhozet Technology, EVS, Akamai, Incited Media, Windows Media and QuickTime.

John Gaydon of Control Room said "We are honoured to be recognised by IBC2008 for the monumental technical tour de force executed to deliver 24 hours of live events, from seven continents, to raise awareness of the climate crisis."

Jeffrey Katzenberg

Jeffrey Katzenberg, the CEO of DreamWorks Animation SKG, was the recipient of the 2008 IBC International Honour for Excellence

The International Honour for Excellence is IBC's most prestigious award.

“I am thrilled to be among the distinguished list of recipients to have received an International Honour for Excellence. At DreamWorks Animation, we aim to create and deliver quality and innovative entertainment for family audiences across the globe and I am very grateful to the IBC for acknowledging our efforts in this area.

"As we enter the year of 3D, I have never experienced a more dynamic and exciting time within the film industry than right now. Thank you for this honour.”

Super Hi-Vision

In 2008 IBC presented a special award to Super Hi-Vision

While this ultra-high definition television system had been seen at other events, IBC2008 marked a world first with international live transmissions, by satellite from Italy and, over fibre, from a camera in London.

The award was presented to Dr Keiichi Kubota, director general of the Science & Technical Research Laboratories of NHK. "It is a tribute to the alliance of forward-looking companies working on this project, and I know that my colleagues at the BBC, RAI and EBU will join me in thanking our industry partners - Cable&Wireless, Eutelsat, Siemens and SIS Live - who are investing heavily in broadband and satellite capacity over an extended period to make this demonstration work."

Steve Wozniak

Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple and now a digital entrepreneur and educator, was awarded the IBC International Honour for Excellence Award in 2007, the 40th anniversary of IBC's foundation

“Ten years into IBC’s history, we in Silicon Valley were revolutionising the world of computing, little realising the impact the personal computer would have on the creative community.

"Today computers and communications have revolutionised content creation and consumption, allowing all to be creative and share their work. I am honoured in this anniversary year to receive the IBC International Honour for Excellence, an award which recognises the strong relationship between technology and creativity”.
