Leaders' Summit

Leadership in a Digital Age

IBC Gold IBC2011 saw the launch of the IBC Leaders’ Summit, an elite event for Europe’s broadcast industry VIPs to enjoy a two-day programme of candid discussion and invaluable networking in the company of some of the most talismanic figures in world media.

Supported by the City of Amsterdam, Deloitte, and AIB and with the sponsorship of Sony and Microsoft, the IBC Leaders’ Summit tasked delegates with one simple aim: to explore what leaders of business in this industry must do to keep pace with their consumers and set the agenda for future strategy.

The initiative emerged from IBC-conducted research, which indicated that a fundamental shift in buying decisions was occuring.

This shift, from best of breed technology towards the policy and business of broadcasting, underscored the need for organisations to understand how they will engage with their consumers via electronic and social media.

The programme included a session led by BBC coo Caroline Thomson and her counterpart at BSkyB, Mike Darcey, examining The Future Demands of Broadcast as well as a unique address by Joanna Shields, vice president and managing director EMEA, Facebook which followed her IBC Conference keynote and delved into greater detail about how broadcasters can monetize their relationship with social networks.

After receiving a strong reception from delegates the intention is that this new venture will grow into a continuing ‘executive club’ providing the platform for informal discussions throughout the year as well as reuniting at IBC2012.
