Graham Plumb is the BBC’s Head of Distribution Technology. The Distribution team in BBC Operations Group manages all of the BBC’s linear contracts for TV and Radio on satellite, cable and terrestrial transmission networks. Graham is the senior manager for the Distribution team responsible for its technical strategy.
Graham secured a First in Engineering from Clare College, Cambridge (MA Cantab). He joined the BBC in 1986. He initially worked in BBC R&D (Kingswood Warren) on the technical development of the systems for DAB digital radio and digital television (including managing the BBC project to develop the frequency plan for the current UK digital terrestrial television network).
While at BBC R&D, he was also involved in early research work into High Definition TV, the development of early digital audio editors and improvements to studio acoustics. Within BBC Strategy, he worked towards the launch of Freeview (DTT) and more recently has been involved with developing the BBC's distribution strategy for HDTV.
Graham is the BBC’s representative on the DVB Steering Board and Commercial Module. He contributed to the Commercial Requirements for the DVB-T2 standard. He is responsible for leading the BBC’s technical and standardisation workstreams in delivering the DVB-T2 implementation project for the BBC Multiplex in the UK.
