    Masaru Takechi is a senior research engineer at Science and Technology Research Laboratories of NHK, where he has been involved in many areas of broadcasting technologies from digital modulation to interactive broadcasting service. His particular interest is middleware and API for interactive digital broadcasting and he has been working on architecture of digital broadcasting receiver from many aspects for many years. His contributions derived through his research were essential for a Japanese standard of receiver software update scheme over the air. Currently, he is working on development of interactive multimedia broadcasting services and application environment based on both declarative and procedural content formats called BML and ARIB-J respectively.

    He also leads establishment of middleware and API Recommendations at ITU as a Rapporteur of ITU-T SG9 and a Rapporteur group chairman of ITU-R WP6B.
