Chris Forrester

Chris Forrester is a well-known broadcasting journalist and industry consultant. He reports on all aspects of broadcasting with special emphasis on content, the business of television and emerging applications. This very much includes interactive multi-media and the growing importance of web-streamed and digitised content over all delivery platforms including cable, satellite and digital terrestrial TV as well as cellular and 3G mobile. Indeed, he has been investigating, researching and reporting on the so-called ‘broadband explosion’ for more than 25 years. He has been a freelance journalist since 1988.
He has a unique knowledge of the international broadcasting scene, having interviewed at length – and frequently - the operational heads of each of the main channels and pay-TV platforms, as well as the heads of the satellite companies. He has written extensively on the subject of 3D, both for broadcast and the cinema. He has covered in depth the development work undertaken by NHK Japan (and visited Japan as a guest of NHK Labs in May 2008).
Until the middle of March 2002 he was Editor of specialist newsletter Interspace, and Contributing Editor for Inside Digital TV. In March 2002 he took on the editorship of Satcoms Insider, and its successor Inside Satellite TV, the highly-regarded specialised newsletter for the digital broadcasting industry. He is also European Contributing Editor for SatMagazine.com, the leading industry on-line monthly.
He is also Editorial Director of Rapid TV News, an online daily which reports on the broadcasting industry.
In addition, his journalism is syndicated every month to many other titles around the world including publications in Egypt, Dubai, Singapore, New York, California, South Africa and elsewhere.
In November 1998 he was appointed an Associate (professor) of the prestigious Adham Center for Television Journalism, part of the American University in Cairo (AUC), in recognition of his extensive coverage of the Arab media scene. He is a regular contributor to AUCs ‘Transnational Broadcasting Studies’.
He is a regular broadcaster on the subject of television having made guest appearances during on the BBC (TV and radio), CNN, CNBC, MBC, CBC, Sky News, Bloomberg TV, etc. His interview tally reads like an industry "Who's Who" and includes Rupert Murdoch, Ted Turner, Sumner Redstone (Viacom), John Malone (Liberty Media), as well as other broadcasting and technology leaders throughout the world.
He wrote “The Business of Digital Television” for Butterworth/Heinemann, published in October 2000. He is also co-author (with Barry Flynn) of a major management report “Digital Television Broadcasting:Drivers for growth and pattern of uptake”, initially published in July 1998 by Phillips Business Publications and brought up to date for 2002.
