David Crawford
Professor David Crawford has degrees in Telecommunications, and a PhD in Image Coding; he is a Professor at the University of Essex in the UK, with interests in mobile and broadband networks for new media, and specialises in the transfer of knowledge and intellectual property from academia to the commercial sector.
David is also actively involved in various international Standards Forums, including the chairing of an ETSI Working Group harmonising digital transmitter standards, and has led Technical Work Groups for the European DVB Project on digital broadcast services.
He has held senior posts with several blue chip companies including British Telecom and Crown Castle in the UK, and Bell Labs in the USA where he worked on HDTV transmission systems. David was Managing Director for Harris Corporation’s European Broadcast business, and is presently a part-time Director of TeamCast of France, which develops high tech modulation equipment.
David is a Member of the Royal Television Society, a Fellow of the IET, and was Chairman of the Conference Committee for the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) from 2006 until 2009.
