Neil Dormand

Neil “retired” from the BBC in 2000. He joined as a trainee cameraman and worked for some years in the Television Centre studios. Then after spending four years as a lecturer in the BBC’s training department in 1982 he joined the management team that launched Breakfast Time. Following that and various reorganisations he headed a department of 700 operational staff that worked across both News and Current Affairs programmes. In his final position of General Manager Technology and Production Services he was responsible for strategy and development of the non-journalistic aspects of BBC News. This included resource provision, accommodation, IT, broadcast technology and safety.
Since leaving the BBC Neil has continued to be involved in the Broadcast industry. He has undertaken a number of consultancy activities as well as directorships of an international company supplying the broadcast industry and a small crewing company. With a partner he currently runs a company which is developing a website that provides information on training resources throughout the world. He is an associate of the Bakewell House Consultancy and has a continuing part time role with the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association as their Technical Consultant. As well as sitting on the IBC Conference Committee Neil is chairman of the Royal Television Society, Thames Valley Centre.
