The Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU), with 28 member broadcasters across the Middle East, needed to develop a new, fast, efficient means of exchanging content. The resulting system, Menos (multimedia exchange network over satellite), developed by Newtec and hosted by Arabsat, is a revolutionary concept.

All material exchange is as files over IP, using a store and forward model at the Menos hub. Because the system uses IP any services can be carried – the Menos network also hosts data and telephony interchange, for example – links can be established without any need for line-up, and solid connection can be achieved with relatively small dishes (1.2m – 1.8m) and low power.
The network is also expandable for potentially large numbers of Menos terminals. Already manufacturers have received certification for Menos-compliant SNG trucks, for example.
