Project: HaiVision Network Video ensures high-quality HD content delivery
End user: TV Barrandov
Supplier: HaiVision Network Video, MediaStream and Mattes
As part of the migration from analogue to digital television in the Czech Republic, terrestrial transmission is moving to DVB-T which has opened up space for more channels. One new entrant to the market, TV Barrandov, launched with an HD service from day one, in early 2009 – and thanks to telco Mattes is also available on IPTV, in high definition.
“We are extremely excited to be considered along with our technology partners - and with the other finalists in our category, Virgin Media and ASBU - for this prestigious honour,” said Mickhal Kratochvil at TV Barrandov. “Thank you to the international judging panel for recognising the innovative teamwork it took to make this project happen.”
Mattes has been offering a triple play (voice, data and video) service for five years, and was keen to raise the profile of its IPTV service by adding HD content. Working with HaiVision Systems they identified suitable codecs which would deliver good HD at low bitrates in MPEG-4. TV Barrandov’s systems integrator, MediaStream, installed the IPTV encoder alongside the terrestrial encoder at the broadcaster to get the best possible compression efficiency.
