Former Hulu exec to head HBO Max International

WarnerMedia has appointed former Hulu exec Johannes Larcher to lead the international operations for the firm’s OTT, HBO Max.

Larcher, who previously served as senior vice-president of international, will become HBO Max International head in August.

In the newly created role, he will report directly to WarnerMedia chief revenue officer Gerhard Zeiler. He will also work closely alongside Whit Richardson, who has been promoted to president of WarnerMedia entertainment networks in Latin America, and Priya Dogra, the firm’s recently promoted EMEA and APAC entertainment networks chief.

“Living at the crossroads of digital technology and content, I’m thrilled to help create unforgettable entertainment experiences for consumers in international markets and make HBO Max an indispensable streaming service around the world,” said Larcher.

BBC Studios overhauls playout, IP distribution with SES

BBC Studios has partnered with SES to deliver playout and IP distribution for its 50 linear channels and services.

The win for SES marks a move away from previous partner Red Bee and will see SES will provide playout, content processing, distribution, and VoD services to BBC Studios’ partners across the globe.

“We are truly excited to be delivering a complete set of video services to BBCS,” said Steve Collar, CEO of SES. “Our dual facility approach is fundamental to our success in ensuring that we have always-on fully backed-up content delivery services and will enable us to provide the highest quality of service for BBCS.”

Pluto TV launches on Virgin

ViacomCBS-owned Pluto TV has launched on Virgin Media UK through a dedicated app.

The partnership means Virgin customers will be able to watch curated Pluto TV channels Pluto TV Movies and Nosey.

Pluto TV’s on-demand selection spans more than 1,000 titles. The expansion means Pluto TV is now available across several platforms, including Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, Roku, Now TV, plus mobile platforms such as iOS and Android.
