James Wilson, director of engineering, IBM Aspera on Cloud
James leads engineering for the IBM Aspera on Cloud offering, which powers collaboration, delivery, automation, monitoring, and advanced infrastructure administration capabilities for the world’s leading media and entertainment companies, leveraging Aspera’s powerful data transport technology to provide transport-as-a-service capabilities in 33 data centers across the four major clouds.
His technical expertise includes scalable containerised microservice-based systems, multicloud architecture, systems engineering, networking, and continuous delivery.
Prior to his life at Aspera, he was involved in building private cloud solutions in the telecom industry. Outside of work, James enjoys mentoring youth in pursuing STEM careers and collecting vintage computers.
Ben Foakes, managing director, BASE Media Cloud
Following a background in Extreme Sports in the late 90’s, Ben’s work has spanned roles from director, editor and colourist to post supervisor, technical consultant and company founder, launching and running media businesses, notably including London post production facility Sequence Post and next-generation Online Media Services cloud provider, BASE Media Cloud.
Since early career highlights editing BAFTA winning live Formula 1 for ITV, Ben’s portfolio of production, post production and management credits has encompassed projects from BBC promos, Top Gear Live TV ads, James Bond end titles, Channel 4 documentaries and Jessie J live shows, to flagship drama series, Suspects for Channel FIVE.
In his current role, leading BASE Media Cloud, Ben’s team of cloud specialists has been responsible for deploying innovative ‘Hub & Spoke’ cloud storage and integrated SaaS solutions for clients including Formula E, The FA, Little Dot Studios, ITV, Objective Media Group and PwC, amongst a long list of global platform users.
