• Channel 5 and Comedy Central join upcoming SVoD service BritBox
  • C5 box-sets to appear on BritBox following 30 days on My5
  • BritBox co-founder ITV says discussions taking place with other partners

ITV has confirmed that BritBox and Viacom-owned Channel 5 and Comedy Central have struck a deal for the channels to join the soon-to-launch SVoD service.

Earlier this year, ITV and the BBC confirmed their plans to launch the UK version of BritBox by the end of 2019, with new commissions set to air in 2020. The broadcasters have billed the service as ”the very best in past, present and future British programming in one place”.

The inclusion of Channel 5 and Comedy Central will see hundreds of additional hours of both channels’ British content available on BritBox from launch.

ITV said that box-sets from Channel 5 will appear on BritBox following a 30 day catch-up window on Channel 5’s on-demand My5 service.

Arran Tindall, senior vice president, Commercial & Content Distribution, Viacom International Media Networks said: “Under Viacom’s ownership we have significantly increased Channel 5’s investment in original UK content and we’re delighted to bring our popular homegrown content to an even wider audience through BritBox, alongside a selection of Comedy Central’s much-loved UK programming.”

ITV added that BritBox is in discussions with other partners to provide content and to distribute BritBox to viewers, with further announcements to follow in coming months.
