Investment: 20% of Broadpeak shares and bonds

Eutelsat Communications has announced a €10 million investment in video content delivery solutions provider Broadpeak.

The investment, which is in the form of shares and bonds, is worth around 20% of Broadpeak – which is a supplier of content delivery network technologies – and will be used to develop new generation video services.

Eutelsat said the investment is part of its strategy to integrate its satellite offering into the IP ecosystem following the launch of its hybrid satellite-OTT solutions CIRRUS in September 2018. CIRRUS offers satellite TV channels and operators a flexible multi-screen solution.

The partnership will see Eutelsat and Broadpeak pool resources to expand their service offerings for telecom operators, media groups and content providers as the industry looks to meet rising demand for video content across all platforms.

Broadpeak co-founder and chairman Jacques Le Mancq claimed that this operation is a new chapter in the company’s development: “This investment by Eutelsat will enable us to strengthen our team and finance the strong growth of our business. We are very excited to develop our partnership with Eutelsat, with whom we will build next-generation services to deliver, optimize and monetize high-quality video experiences for end-users, whether at home or on the move.”

For Eutelsat, the news follows the recent launch of the company’s newest satellite, the Eutelsat 7C, which will offer high-powered broadcast services to markets in Africa, Europe and the Middle East. The satellite was lifted into space from Kourou, French Guiana by an Ariane 5 rocket on 21 June.
