Annette Kümmel, who has worked for the broadcaster for some 26 years, most recently as senior vice president of regulatory and governmental relations, will now be responsible for overseeing Prosiebensat.1’s new and existing sustainability initiatives.

Annette Kümmel, chief sustainability officer, said: “Social engagement and sustainability have always been part of our corporate strategy, since ProSiebenSat.1 is far more than a commercial company.

“We reach millions of viewers and users every day with our TV channels and digital platforms, which is a great privilege and a special responsibility at the same time. We want to do business with our group in an inclusive, sustainable, environmentally and socially responsible manner. We will continue to expand our commitment in 2020 on all of these topics.”

Earlier this month ProSiebenSat.1 joined the United Nations (UN) Global Compact, which requires a commitment to its principles in the areas of human rights, labour standards, the environment and climate, and the prevention of corruption.

Another initiative relates to the production of content. ProSiebenSat.1 said that as one of the largest clients for TV and media in Germany it is conducting a pilot branded “Cleanly Shot”, the aim of which is to encourage productions to reduce CO2 emissions, protect natural resources and avoid environmentally harmful substances and reducing plastic.

ProSiebenSat.1 has also been working with Media4Planet (M4P) since October 2019 and said it would further expand the collaboration in 2020. M4P bundles advertising space from media partners on preferential terms and markets it to companies, initiatives or projects that pursue sustainable goals.

Deputy chief executive and group general counsel Conrad Albert added: “[Annette’s] invaluable knowledge of cross-company initiatives and working with political decision-makers will help us make ProSiebenSat.1 a pioneer in Europe when it comes to sustainability.”
