The IBC Big Screen
Featuring the very latest in cinema technology, the IBC Big Screen was one of the most captivating parts of the show and utilised the 1,700 seat auditorium in the centre of the RAI to stunning effect. Its state-of-the-art facilities encompassed Christie 2k, 4k and stereoscopic 3D digital projection, while audio was presented in Dolby 7.1 surround sound. Whether at an exhibitor demonstration, conference session, or during one of the special free movie screenings that IBC featured during the show, it was the perfect place for you to experience the very latest in cinema technology.
Exhibitors Sessions
The IBC Big Screen's cutting edge facilities were put to perfect use in a series of sessions demonstrating the very latest in cinema and broadcast technology. Arri and Red Digital showcased impressive footage shot on their latest digital cinema cameras including Red’s 5k Epic. Red workflows were highlighted in sessions led by Assimilate while P+S Technik presented tools for capturing exceptional imagery. In addition Christie gave attendees a chance to view the state of the art in projection.
Conference Sessions
The IBC Big Screen came into its own when supporting the theme of stereo 3D on the Monday of IBC when four major sessions analysed the format in depth.
"3D Live at the Big Screen: Movie and Program Makers Show How it Works in Real Time" took delegates through the step by step practical requirements for producing a good live 3D experiences in sports, theatre or music. "Stereoscopic 3D - Fixing it in Post" assessed the risks and advantages to fixing 3D in post in the company of renowned Hollywood executives Howard Lukk, vice president digital production technology, The Walt Disney Studio and Rob Hummel, president, Group 47, LLC. The tricky business of designing 3D for screens from iPad to IMAX was tackled in "Delivering 3D to the Audience" while the day rounded off with a tantalizing "Glimpse into the Stereoscopic Future".
IBC Big Screen Movies
The IBC Big Screen has built an enviable reputation over the years for its free movie screenings, which this year not only showcased the very best in modern cinema technology but did so by hosting some of the biggest films of the year. Its state-of-the-art facilities encompassed Christie 2k, 4k and stereoscopic 3D digital projection, while audio was presented in Dolby 7.1 surround sound.
IBC2011 saw an amazing Saturday Night Movie screening of Transformers 3:Dark of Moon – in stereoscopic Dolby 3D and Dolby 7.1 ‘Courtesy of Paramount Pictures International’.
The Monday Night Showcase this year included an amazing extended trailer of James Cameron’s Titanic 3D, Flying Monsters in 3D and much more courtesy of Lightstorm Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox.
