Prime Video earmarks $2bn Latin American spend between 2027 and 2030

Amazon Prime Video has announced plans to invest more than $2bn in Latin America between 2027 and 2030.

The investment will span original programming, locally produced and acquired content, and live sports rights across Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile.

The announcement was made at Prime Video Presents Latin America, the streamer's inaugural regional showcase event in Mexico City on 20 August 2026.

Prime Video reportedly plans to double the number of local originals produced across the five countries, compared to 2026.

The company’s 2027 slate includes 25 new titles, spanning scripted series, films, unscripted, and reality formats. They include La Oficina Season 2, Florence Cassez, Tremembé Season 2, biopic Marília, Menem Season 2, Te Odio, Te Amo, Rojo Corazón, Catedrales, and Valentina.

Live sports will also be a focus for Prime Video in Latin America. The streamer said more than 20 million households in Latin America tuned in to watch sports on Prime Video, exceeding the service's total for all of 2025.

Following an 11-year global deal with the NBA, Prime Video has expanded coverage in Brazil and Mexico to more than 200 games per season. It also brought the NBA to Argentina, Colombia, and Chile for the first time.

In Brazil, the streamer has rights to Copa do Brasil and Italy’s Série A.

Prime Video will also become a new home for the Mexico National Team, delivering 38 home matches over four years beginning September 26.

The company also announced that customers will be able to sign up for third-party streaming subscriptions and rent and buy movies in six new territories – Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Paraguay, and Peru.

"What's happening in Latin America right now is extraordinary – the talent, the stories, the audiences," said Kelly Day, Vice President of International at Prime Video.

"Our job is to find stories that are undeniably local and make them undeniably universal," said Javiera Balmaceda, Head of International Originals for Latin America, Canada, and Australia at Amazon MGM Studios. "This slate – from a forbidden love story on the polo fields of Punta del Este to an unsolved crime that still divides Brazil – is proof that when you trust Latin American storytellers with ambition and resources, the world pays attention."

Prime Video recently unveiled a massive slate of original TV shows, feature films, and licensed content in India, underlining its ambition to expand its footprint in the country. Discover more here.
