UK broadcaster Channel 4 has promoted Barry John to Technology Director.
John, who is currently Head, Ad Operations, Channel 4, will take up the role on 1 November 2026, after working at the broadcaster for the past 16 years.
Announcing the move on LinkedIn, John said he would head Channel 4's technology activity across the entire organisation, leading its content management and technology teams, and overseeing its ad tech team.
“To state the obvious, the media industry is changing rapidly, creating new opportunities to innovate, forge partnerships, and find new ways of serving audiences and advertisers. Few organisations are better placed to seize those opportunities than Channel 4,” wrote John.
“I'm looking forward to working alongside outstanding colleagues across the business as we continue to utilise the best in tech, innovation, and R&D to evolve, grow, and deliver on Channel 4's unique public service mission.”
John takes over from Grace Boswood, who will reportedly leave the broadcaster later this year. He will report to Channel 4’s Chief Financial Officer.
Channel 4 recently announced it will cut 340 jobs by the end of the year, reducing its workforce by more than a quarter. Discover more here.
