Canal+ has agreed a deal with Netflix that will see it become the first pay-TV operator to distribute the streamer’s content as part of its offerings across 24 Sub-Saharan African countries.
From July, Canal+ subscribers in French-speaking African countries will be able to access Netflix content via their subscription.
It builds on a similar 2019 distribution deal between Canal+ and Netflix covering France and Poland.
Canal+ offers over 400 live channels, including 28 produced for African audiences, in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The Netflix partnership will see it offer series like Stranger Things, La Casa de Papel, Lupin, Emily in Paris and Squid Game, alongside African productions such as Blood & Water, Young Famous and African, Unseen, King of Boys, Anikulapo, Blood Sisters and Kings of Joburg.
The partnership will allow Netflix to use Canal+'s footprint on the African continent to roll out its service. For Canal+, the partnership offers an opportunity to strengthen its position as a major content aggregator,
