Lumine Group has agreed to acquire the video network business from Synamedia.
Headquartered in the UK, Synamedia is a global provider of video software solutions. With more than 30 years in the industry, Synamedia combines cloud and AI technologies, operational scale, managed services, and domain knowledge to help broadcasters and media companies deliver and monetise video.
Upon completion, this will mark Lumine Group’s 16th corporate carve-out transaction. Consistent with Lumine’s decentralisation strategy, the business will operate independently under its primary product name, Quortex.
Quortex is a SaaS multi-CDN management platform that delivers intelligent video solutions across cloud, on-premise, and hybrid environments. Its services help customers: prepare for the pending C-band transition in the US; transition from satellite to IP; deliver high-quality viewing experiences; and monetise services.
Synamedia first acquired Quortex in July 2022. At the time, Synamedia highlighted Quortex’s “just-in-time technology” that provided time-to-market and cost advantages over existing cloud approaches by freeing up resources when no one was watching a channel.
Lumine Group’s acquisition is anticipated to close in the near future, subject to customary closing conditions and completion of applicable employee consultation processes.
“The Synamedia video network business will be a meaningful addition to Lumine’s growing media ecosystem,” said Tony Garcia, Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Lumine Group. “On completion, this acquisition will deepen our presence in the media supply chain domain, with particular focus on video processing, broadcast delivery, and live streaming… We look forward to welcoming this global team and its customers to Lumine, to share our best practices, and to learn from their decades of industry insight.”
Paul Segre, Chief Executive of Synamedia, added: “This transaction, on completion, will mark an exciting new chapter for both Synamedia and Quortex. This will create two distinct businesses with clear strategic direction and strong category positioning, allowing both to move faster, innovate more effectively, and deepen the value they deliver to customers around the world. We look forward to working closely with Lumine over the coming weeks to ensure a smooth transition for our valued employees, customers, and partners.”
Telxius recently integrated its carrier-grade content delivery network (CDN) with Synamedia’s Quortex Switch platform, which the companies say enables content providers to dynamically switch between CDNs in real time for the first time. Discover more here.
