MFE MediaForEurope, the media group controlled by the family of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, is planning to launch a single streaming platform across its European markets.
Chief Executive Pier Silvio Berlusconi said MFE had chosen the best-performing elements from its existing European streaming operations to build a single platform for the countries it operates in.
"The front end will be the Italian one, while the supporting technology will be the German one," Berlusconi said at a press conference at the company's headquarters near Milan, in comments reported by Reuters.
The move is part of MFE's strategy to build a European advertising-funded platform that can compete with streaming giants such as Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+.
MFE owns Mediaset Italia in Italy and Mediaset España in Spain. Last year, the company took control of German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 and acquired a 32.9% stake in Portuguese media company Impresa.
Reuters also reported that MFE will continue to produce content and programmes aimed at viewers in individual countries, rather than pursuing a pan-European programming strategy.
MFE’s new European platform is expected to launch early in 2027.
MFE recently agreed to pay approximately €17.3m to buy a 32.9% stake in Portuguese media company Impresa. Discover more here.
