Netflix strikes programming deal with Spain’s Atresmedia

Netflix has struck a programming deal with leading Spanish commercial broadcaster Atresmedia.

A selection of Atresmedia titles will be available to Netflix’s Spanish subscribers after they air on Atresmedia’s channels, including Antena 3 and La Sexta.

The move comes as Netflix increases its partnerships with European broadcasters after agreeing a significant programme-sharing deal with France’s TF1 earlier this year.

Atresmedia titles coming to Netflix include documentary series Equipo de Investigación, talk shows El Hormiguero and El Intermedio, drama Sueños de Libertad, and game show Pasapalabra

“Bringing five of its standout titles to Netflix will allow their stories, characters, and formats to reach more viewers and diversify audiences, an initiative that provides greater visibility and reach for these domestic productions. It is a mutually beneficial relationship for all parties involved,” said Atresmedia.

Netflix has forged a strong relationship with Atresmedia in recent years. Atresmedia series already available on Netflix worldwide include Gran Hotel, La Casa de Papel, Mar de Plástico, Vis a Vis El Barco, and El Internado.

The deal is the latest evidence of growing partnerships between global streamers and local broadcasters. Earlier this month, Disney+ struck a deal with Groupe M6 in France to air some of its shows. The streamer also has a partnership with ITVX in the UK.

Netflix recently named Jay Hoag as Chairman of ‌its board, succeeding the streaming service’s Co-Founder, Reed Hastings. Discover more here
