A total of 72 Kron Technologies Chronos 1.4 high-speed cameras were taken to Finland recently, where they were put through their paces by the Hydraulic Press Channel.
Launched in October 2015, Hydraulic Press Channel is a YouTube channel operated by Finnish factory owner Lauri Vuohensilta and his wife Anni. The channel specialises in videos of various objects being crushed in an hydraulic press, with an emphasis on capturing physical changes that cannot be easily witnessed by the human eye.
According to Kron Technologies operations manager Tabatha Hughes, the Chronos 1.4 cameras performed “very well and allowed [the Hydraulic Press] team to capture a variety of exciting shots for multiple videos”.
Entirely self-contained, the Chronos 1.4 is a 1.4 gigapixel-per-second handheld high-speed camera. It captures 1280x1024 video at 1057fps, and also records at up to 38,500fps at lower resolution. Video is saved in compressed H.264 or uncompressed RAW format to removable media.
Other features include high sensitivity of ISO 320-5 120 (colour) and 740-11 840 (monochrome), enabling shooting with modest lighting. The camera can run on a 1.5-hour internal battery or indefinitely on an AC adapter, while a ‘Run-n-Gun’ record mode allows the user to forget about saving. Simply capture bursts of video by holding the shutter button and the video will be automatically saved to card.
Krontech is exhibiting at IBC2019 on Stand 2.C51.
