Designed specifically for the pro-digital video market, Sonnet is introducing a pair of two-slot Thunderbolt-to-PCIe card expansion systems at IBC. The Echo II DV Module and xMac mini Server DV are designed to support the increasing bandwidth demands of contemporary video I/O cards used in digital video systems.

The systems leverage a feature of Apple Mac Studio and Mac mini computers equipped with M1 and M2 processors; instead of splitting bandwidth between ports, the Thunderbolt ports on these models are designed with independent busses, providing up to 2880Mbps of bandwidth to each.

Similarly, each PCIe card slot in the new Sonnet systems connects to its own Thunderbolt interface – and requires its own connection to the computer – to support pro video capture and transcoding cards with as much bandwidth as Thunderbolt can offer.

Sonnet’s lineup of expansion systems features a range of two- and three-slot PCIe card systems, which connect their slots to a single Thunderbolt port on a computer.
