Disney+ is to launch its ad-supported subscription plan in the UK and select European countries on 1 November.
The Standard with Ads will be available in United Kingdom, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
The standard plan will offer Disney+ content without ads and with the ability to download videos to watch offline. The premium plan will offer 4k video, downloads, and up to four different devices at once.
There is currently only a single price tier for Disney+ in the UK, which costs £7.99 per month, but in November there will be three new tiers available. The ad tier plan will cost £4.99 in the UK and offer 1080p video and the ability for two people to watch on different devices. As well as the ad tier, it will cost £7.99 for a standard and £10.99 for a premium subscription plan. The standard plan will be available for £79.90 annually and the premium plan for £109.90.
Disney+ first launched its ad-supported tier in 2022 in the US, following a similar move by rival Netflix.
Jan Koeppen, President of The Walt Disney Company EMEA, said: “The introduction of the ad-supported plan marks the next evolution for Disney+ in Europe, as we provide greater choice for our customers and our world-class advertising partners alike. Disney+ continues to set itself apart in today’s streaming landscape, offering unrivalled value, genre-defining TV series and blockbuster movies set within a simple and seamless experience”.
