The expansion introduces support for languages including Arabic, Croatian, Hebrew, Thai, Indonesian, Malay, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. It will incorporate UI, audio, and timed text depending on the language.

Disney+ is also introducing a new right-to-left interface designed for languages such as Arabic and Hebrew.

The company described the language expansion as a way to build “a streaming experience that is more accessible and localised than ever before. Language availability is what helps stories and characters find fans beyond their country of origin, as we’ve seen some of our most popular local originals like Perfect Crown, Dear Killer Nannies, Battle of Fates, and The Boss find success around the globe.”

The localisation push comes as Disney+ looks to boost the number of its international subscribers. The streamer has approximately 131.6 million global subscribers, consisting of 59.3 million in the US and Canada, with the remaining 72.4 million coming from international markets.

Disney+ recently launched ‘Verts,’ a new TikTok-style vertical video feed feature for its mobile app that allows users to swipe through recommended clips from Disney films and series. Discover more here.
