Behind the Scenes: Cape Fear

It’s a jungle out there. Celiana Cárdenas, Director of Photography, explains how the series evoked the oppressive and unsettling atmosphere of a stalker hunting its prey in Apple TV’s pulp fiction.

Apple TV’s Cape Fear is a prestige reimagining of Martin Scorsese’s kinetic 1991 thriller, which was executive produced by Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. The series also draws on the original 1962 black-and-white feature while building its own updated identity.

"The question was always how do we capture the spirit of the 1991 movie without remaking shots?" explains Mexican Cinematographer Celiana Cárdenas, who alternated the 10 episodes with British Director of Photography (DP) Eben Bolter (The Last of Us). "It was about creating the psychology of this menacing person slowly invading people's minds, their home, and their lives."
