The Royal Television Society has announced the nominations for its 2018 Television Journalism Awards.

Coverage of the Grenfell Tower fire and Victoria Derbyshire are amongst those recognised across the award categories by organisations whose broadcast are transmitted on a UK-based platform or created online video content from a UK production base.

BBC News Channel, CNN International or Sky News will be awarded The Royal Television Society (RTS) News Channel of the Year award, while the Daily News Programme of the Year will be presented to ITV News at Ten, Victoria Derbyshire for BBC Two or BBC News at Ten.

The Grenfell Tower Fire coverage by ITV Studios Daytime for ITV’s Good Morning Britain and the Sky News report are nominated along with Sky News’ coverage of the Manchester Terror Attack for the category Breaking News.

Scoop of the Year will see Rohingya Refugee Crisis by Sky News, CNN Internatinal’s Libya Slave Market and Priti Patel Resignation by BBC News for BBC One in contention to win.

Programmes in the running for the News Coverage – Home award are Victoria Derbyshire for its reporting on Football Abuse Revelations by BBC Two, BBC News’ Knife and Gun Crime Uncovered, and the BBC’s Newsnight on the Grenfell Tower fire. The News Coverage – International award will recognise either Channel 4 News’ Rohingya Crisis coverage by ITN for Channel 4 News, The Demise of ISIS by ITV News (ITN for ITV) or BBC News’ reporting on Yemen.

BBC Two’s reporter Victoria Derbyshire, ITV’s News and Current Affairs reporter Julie Etchingham and BBC’s reporter Andrew Neil are nominated for the Network Presenter of the Year award. Channel 4 News’ Jonathan Miller is up against BBC News’ Orla Guerin and Sky News’ Stuart Ramsay for the Television Journalist of the Year.

Chris Cook form BBC Newsnight on BBC Two go head to head with Jason Farrell from Sky News and ITN for Channel 4 News’ Michael Crick for the Specialist Journalist of the Year award.

The Interview of the Year award nominations go to Victoria Derbyshire for its football abuse revelations on BBC Two, against Emily Maitlis’ interview with Theresa May for Newsnight - Grenfell on BBC Two and A Nolan Show Investigation: The Arlene Foster and Jonathan Bell Interviews on BBC One Northern Ireland.

The Independent Award highlights for the best independent productions include the Battle for Mosul by Nine Finger Productions for Channel 4, Dispatches - Undercover: Britain’s Cheap Clothes by Blakeway Productions for Channel 4 and Unreported World: Africa’s Perfect Storm by Quicksilver Media for Channel 4.
