Adobe has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Topaz Labs, an Emmy-winning AI company that develops tools for video and image enhancement. Terms of the deal, expected to close in the second half of 2026, were not revealed.
Topaz Labs’ AI models include tools for upscaling, sharpening, stabilisation, frame interpolation, noise removal and restoration.
With the acquisition, Adobe aims to expand its video and image model offerings in its Adobe Firefly, Firefly Services and Creative Cloud apps. According to the announcement, Topaz Labs products will also remain available standalone.
David Wadhwani, President of Creativity and Productivity Business at Adobe, said: “Creators are creating more content by mixing captured and generated images and video, and with Topaz Labs we will give every creator the quality and control to easily produce that content at higher quality and resolution.”
Plans call for Topaz Labs CEO Eric Yang to continue to lead his team following the acquisition.
“We’ve always believed that technology should serve human creativity rather than replace it – and so has Adobe,” said Yang. “Together, we believe we can dramatically expand what’s possible for filmmakers and creators everywhere.”
Topaz Labs’s tech also includes its proprietary ‘Neurostream’ technology for enabling “large, complex AI models” to run locally on consumer devices.
