France Télévisions and YouTube have formed a strategic partnership to broaden access to public service content and combat disinformation.
In line with France Télévisions' streaming-first strategy, this alliance will see thousands of hours of programming made available online each year, accessible shortly after broadcast.
The partnership will include all of France Télévisions’ national and local news broadcasts, as well as content from all of the group's flagship daily and weekly news and investigative magazines. It will also see the production of original, 100% native YouTube content.
To offer greater protection against misinformation and manipulated content, YouTube will integrate its Likeness ID tool for detecting AI-generated content that uses the image or identity of public figures without their consent.
The alliance will enable France Télévisions to better leverage its presence on YouTube, with France TV Publicité directly selling its inventory on the platform.
Delphine Ernotte Cunci, CEO of France Télévisions, said: “This strategic partnership with YouTube accelerates France Télévisions' streaming-first strategy. In a highly competitive video landscape and in the face of the French public's increasing exposure to misinformation, it strengthens the reach of France Télévisions' news content to all audiences, including those furthest removed from traditional media.”
Justine Ryst, Managing Director of YouTube France, added: “We are proud of this strategic partnership with France Télévisions and convinced of the perfect complementary relationship between YouTube and the public service broadcasters' channels. We are committed to supporting the ambitions of the France Télévisions group by putting our technology at the service of news and the reach of its content.”
