Deal targets MediaCity Mauritius as African tech epicentre

Broadcasting Center Africa has selected BCE to support the development of its technology capabilities within MediaCity Mauritius, with the ambition of creating a technology epicentre for Africa’s media and content industry. 

By bringing together BCA’s vision for the African media market and BCE’s technology and operational expertise, the initiative aims to create a hub serving media professionals across the continent, and provide an international gateway to African content markets.  

The agreement will be formally signed in coming days at the headquarters of RTL Group and BCE in Luxembourg, marking the beginning of what BCE believes can become a long-term relationship between the two companies.

Frédéric Fiévez, Chief Operating Officer, BCE, said: “The idea is to create an environment for the creative industry to be able to create, distribute, or even archive content, the same way that we do in Luxembourg, but in Mauritius. 

"There is a need for [data] sovereignty in Africa, as we have in Europe. We seek the same goal."
