Volumetric capture is “a new form of photography” that records reality in a way that makes it ideal for all of today’s deliverables, from interactive headset to cinema screens, according to Neirin Jones, Director and DP, Prism AI.
Sharing his workflow on the Red stand at IBC, Jones described how he used a 75‑camera Red V‑Raptor X array shooting at 8K using Nikon lenses to shoot a music video for DeathbyRomy. It allowed him to capture an authentic live performance, then place it on a concert stage as well as within “a crazy, electronic otherworld”, using camera moves that would be impossible in reality.
Jones has been interested in the IBC sessions on AI, but says he values the reality of volumetric capture and thinks “there will be a craving in the market for reality”.
“What we're doing is capturing reality,” he said. “It's definitely not generative AI, and I think that's its biggest selling point.”
He’s currently in talks with a headset company that wants to put his video on every headset they sell as a demo.
