Kenji Terada

Senior Director and Chief of Engineering, NHK

Mr. Terada joined NHK in 1990. He started out in broadcast operations before moving across to the Engineering Administration Department’s Technical Development Center in 1993. There, he was engaged in development and preparation work for the introduction of Hi-Vision, NHK’s high-definition TV system. He also supervised the digitization of terrestrial and satellite broadcasting, and the equipment plans for both the NHK Hybridcast service, which links broadcasting and telecommunications, and 4K and 8K satellite broadcasting, contributing in diverse ways to the advance of broadcasting technology.

As Executive Controller of the Corporate Planning Department from 2019, he directed the strengthening of the organizational system and human resource development of technical operations. As Director of the Engineering Administration Department from 2021, he supervised overall technical planning and preparation for broadcasting activities, including plans for the new Broadcasting Center and the internet distribution service, NHK Plus. Mr. Terada became a Senior Director of NHK and Chief of Engineering in April, 2023, holding overall responsibility for NHK’s engineering activities.
