Industry events

Disrupt SF 2018 is a tech conference specifically for the startup ecosystem, hosted in San Franciso. From Wednesday to Friday, four stages cover hot topics including AI, VR, AR, blockchain, robotics and space. There will be a startup battlefield competition, a virtual hackathon, hundreds of startups in the startup alley, workshops and networking.  

2018 Venice International Film Festival returns for the 75th year with the aim to promote international cinema in all its forms including art and entertainment. The First Man starring Ryan Gosling, Jason Clarke and Claire Foy kick off the festival, which runs until the 8 of September. 

Cisco Systems with Macquarie will host an SD-WAN tech talk on Wednesday. The discussion will focus on strategies and enterprise routing.

  • T-Mobile USA will announce its Q2 2018 earnings on Wednesday 
  • Dell Technologies will host a Q2 2019 predicted earnings call on Thursday

Film and TV releases

Wanderlust is a co-production with Netflix and BBC One. Airing on BBC One this Tuesday at 9:00pm BST and is released globally on Netflix. The series follows a couple who reassess their relationship and question if monogamy is outdated. 

Ryan Murphy’s horror anthology American Horror Story: Cult returns to Netflix on Saturday for the seventh season of the Emmy-winning drama where humankind’s unsettling capacity for evil is explored. 

Coming to UK theatres on Friday, American Animals follows four young men who mistake their lives for a movie and attempt one of the most audacious heists in US history. It stars Evan Peters, Ann Dowd and Barry Keoghan. 

Sky Witness will air a 10-part miniseries on Tuesday at 9:00pm BST on the adaption of Joel Dicker’s bestselling novel The Truth about the Harry Quebert Affair starring Patrick Dempsey. 

ITV’s season 15 of X Factor sees the British reality show return to find the stars from across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

7 September 1927 American inventor and television pioneer Philo Farnsworth made the first successful completely electronic TV transmission, he also filed a patent for his system the same year.
