The remake of Disney classic The Lion King, helmed by Jon Favreau, took home three awards at the ceremony, which took place last night at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles.

The Lion King was named winner of awards for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature, Outstanding Created Environment in a Photoreal Feature, and Outstanding Virtual Cinematography in a CG Project.

Comedian Patton Oswalt served as host for the 9th time to the more than 1,000 guests who attended the awards, which recognises outstanding visual effects artistry and innovation in film, animation, television, commercials, video games and special venues.

Nominations for the VES awards were announced earlier this month. It comes as the industry is amidst the 2020 awards season.

Other multiple award winners included Missing Link. The Mandalorian, Game of Thrones and Stranger Things all picking up two gongs.
