The SMPTE 2110 suite of standards might be woven into the fabric of every hall at IBC2025, but outside of the RAI it has also been recognised with an Emmy Award. This October, the award for Outstanding Achievement in Engineering, Science & Technology will be presented to SMPTE, the European Broadcasting Union and Video Services Forum for their joint development of SMPTE ST 2110.
Thomas Bause Mason, Director, Standards Development, SMPTE, said: “If you walk around IBC, you will see ST 2110 everywhere; it's omnipresent, but people don't always recognise all the hard work that goes into developing the standard. This is a great endorsement of all this work, and it also illustrates how important SMPTE standards are to the industry.”
SMPTE has also announced the introduction of a Content Provenance and Authenticity in Media study group to assess how current content provenance and authenticity technologies affect media production and distribution. A key focus will be on the carriage of content provenance information in MXF files, which SMPTE said was due to an urgent industry need.
