The importance of Italy to Hitachi system camera sales has been emphasised by an order for 66 of its latest UHD camera, bringing to a total of more than 550 studio and OB HD and UHD camera sales since 2018, as part of two long-term contracts.

The order for the new SK-UHD7000 UHD/HD cameras includes 13 wireless systems from Domo Broadcast Systems, and the cameras were selected by the broadcasters after extensive testing and comparative trials with rival studio cameras, thanks to “excellent image quality as well as an attractive price”, according to Hitachi.

“These have been tremendously exciting projects for us,” said Cemal Yilmaz, General Manager, Hitachi Kokusai Electric Europe. “Working with the world’s most innovative and technologically advanced broadcasters, we gained a huge amount of practical experience and understanding of the real implications of premium content production in Ultra HD/HD. That knowledge fed directly into our rolling development programme, which means that the latest iteration of our Ultra HD/HD system camera meets the real, practical requirements of broadcasters, not just in Italy, but worldwide.”

The SK-UHD7000E-S1 is a three-chip, 2/3in global shutter CMOS camera with 3840x2160 effective pixels, in a portable body with standard B4 lens mount. “It supports HDR and BT.2020 wide colour gamut, with simultaneous output of HDR and SDR and both UHD and HD,” explained Mark Capstick, General Manager, Broadcast Solutions Sales.

The camera connects to the CCU over standard SMPTE fibre using 12Gbps transmission, outputting 12G-SDI from the CCU, with ST2110 support for video over IP coming soon.
