The energy impact of the streaming industry has been a hot topic recently, and we are all looking for ways to reduce our OTT carbon footprint. Video Quality Analisis (VQA) is a resource hungry process, so is ripe for a rethink. Currently, VQA tools monitor live content 24/7, regardless of whether errors are present or not. This continuous monitoring makes these operations expensive and environmentally unfriendly. Touchstream’s VQA Verde utilises existing data from Touchstream’s own ABR monitoring and CDN logs and takes a machine learning (ML) approach to predict likely VQ issues. Detected data anomalies then trigger the full deep VQA monitoring, but only for several minutes, to validate or reject the prediction. This approach significantly reduces the amount of processing time and resources required. Touchstream’s approach harnesses the power of data to uncover vital hidden insights without compromising our fragile ecosystem.
